Here are the latest News updates from the 119 South Band Website

1/4/08 Update:  Well, it's a New Year for the 119 South Band and we are looking forward to 2008!  Hopefully, this year will bring a new album and several major appearances by the band.  We just want out fans to know how much we appreciate them and look forward to playing for you.  We have plans to make our fan club bigger with special opportunities just for our members!  Again, thank you for you support and we hope to see you soon!

1/1/08 Update:  Wow! Last night (or should I say "This morning..."!) at the Earl Ray Tombin Convention Center at Chief Logan Park, the 119 South Band welcomed in the New Year with a very nice group of firends and family.  We played the old year out and rang in the new year as the crowd danced and partied their own way thru!  The band was in great form, playing three hour-long sets or the music we are famous for!  Everyone truly seemed to have a good time and the dance floor stayed in use!  A big "Thank You" goes out to Rick Knotts and all the staff of the Convention Center.  We appreciated the opportunity to play locally on New Year's Eve!

As we approached the magic midnight hour, Robbie took the band through Tracy Lawrence's "Time Marches On", which seemed appropriate for the occassion.  Then we gathered our loved ones close, counted down and kissed in the New Year, and then we helped the crowd out with the band's version of "Auld Lang Syne!"  We continued to play well into the New Year and everybody really seemed to have a good time!  One other note - the song of the night just mught have been our version of Bob Seger's "Turn the Page!"

11/17/07 Update: Last night, the 119 South Band opened for Mark Chesnutt at the Coalfield Jamboree.  A nice crowd of several hundred attended the show.  The band played a great set as Dave opened up with "The House Is Rockin'" and Jeff followed with "Sunspot Baby!"  Robbie joined the band onstage with "Fast As You" and took the crowd back in time with his version of the Conway classic, "Crazy In Love."  Then the band played "Find Out Who You're Friends Are" and the crowd was fired up and ready for anything.  So the band responded with their new original song "Something 'Bout 'Bama".  After the song ended, the crowd applauded, screamed and yelled for more.  So we gave them what they wanted!

Robbie debuted a new original stone-cold country song called "Read Between The Lines."  This song chills me everytime we play it.  The crowd really enjoyed it, too!  After that, we took the to "Margaritaville" and spent some time "Looking for Love" before we ended the show with "Lotta Leaving Left To Do!"

Mark Chesnutt came out and played a great show starting with "Bubba Shot The Jukebox" and continuing thru "Get A Life."  Along the way he did tributes to George Jones and Merle Haggard, played his new hit song, "Rolling With The Flow" and encored us with "Going Through The Big D (and Don't Mean Dallas!)"  It was a great show and we enjoyed it.  The 119 South Band wants to send out a special "Thank You" to Billy Shahan of 96.1 The Wolf for introducing us the the stage.  We love you (& The Wolf!), Billy!

10/1/07 Update:  The 119 South Band has been very busy and on the road!  We traveled to Circleville, WV for the Pendleton County Fair.  What beautiful and majestic scenery is found in that part of the state!  We played two sets at the fair and had a great time making new friends up north!

We also played for the Massey Energy Poker Run in South Williamson, Kentucky.  The band wants to thank Jeff Gillenwater at Massey Energy for remembering us and David Dodd for his great sound production!  Thanks guys!  We appreciate it!

8/13/07 Update:  On Saturday night the 119 South Band played in front of a nice crowd as part of the Logan County Arts and Crafts Fair.  We played for a little over two hours and the fans stayed with us the whole time.  We saw quite a few of or local friends and family come out but also made some new fans along the way.  I had several people stop me to tell us how much they enjoyed the show.  Almost everyone said they'd love to come back to see us again at the fair.  We want to give a big Thank You to Debrina Williams and the Logan County Chamber of Commerce for their help in rbinging us to the 2007 Logan County Arts and Crafts Fair.  We really enjoyed playing and everybody seemed to have a good time.

Just a couple of weeks back we were at the Charleston Ribfest.  We fought the rain on this one, but by showtime, the skies had cleared and we were able to play.  Steve Mayo wasn't with us for this show, so Jeff Lane filled in on acoustic guitar when needed.  Anyway, those that ventured down to the Dunbar Ames Plaza got their fill of music and ribs.  Dave and Jeff and their ladies sampled the ribs and the curly potato fries.  You could hear them doing the "Homer Simpson drool" sounds from twenty feet away!  A good time was had by all.  Thanks to Bill Picozzi and B&P Productions for bringing the band to the Charleston Ribfest!

7/7/7 Update:  WOW!  What a great time we had in Logan last night at the WV Freedom Festival.  What a nice crowd!  They were really into the music and the band, dancing and singing along with every song we played.  And play we did!  We got off to a slightly later start than anticipated, but kept downtown Logan awake to almost 1:00 in the morning!  And the crowd stayed right there with us!  We appreciate our fans and it had been far too long since we were able to play in our own hometown.  We sure look forward to getting back onstage at the Coalfield Jamboree in the very near future.  The 119 South Band wants to send a big THANK YOU out to Mayor Claude Ellis, Serafino Nolletti and the other council members and Festival Organizer Amber Gore.  You guys always do a superior job with this fair and we enjoyed working with you!

Up next for us is a trip to Chapmanville for their 60th Anniversary Celebration.  I hope the crowd at Chapmanville comes ready to rock to a country rhythym and gts into the show the way the crowd did in Logan... but that may be too tall an order to expect!  We will see you there this Saturday at 5:00 PM!

6/15/07 Update: What a great summer the 119 South Band has enjoyed so far!  We have had the pleasure of plaqying some very nice events and have released our second CD, Covers.  And there's still a lot of summer left!  Here's what's happened so far:

On May 19th, we made our way to Omar, WV for the first ever Greasy Pig Fest!  Well, the pigs might have been greasy, but the Barbeque was excellent.  Big thanks to Rhonda for hooking us up with some of the cooked pig.  This was truly a night of old-time, fun-filled entertainment.  Both kids and adults had fun watching the little ones try to catch the greasy pigs!  There was also the Pig-tucky Derby, slides, sumo-wrestling and much more.  The 119 South Band played to an enthusiastic crowd which included some award winning hog-callers!  A big THANK YOU to Larry Rogers and the Omar Crime Watch Group.  We look forward to working with you again in the near future!

On June 8th, everyone was rollin' on the river... or at least to the Charleston Levee for the Appalachian Power Lineman's Rodeo!  We had the [pleasure of opening for country music star John Michael Montgomery.  Man, it was a hot day, but just before showtime, a big storm blew through and cooled things down.  We didn't get a torrential downpour, but the wind blew so hard it made the Kanawha River look like it was flowing in the wrond direction.  All of those houseboats had to "batten down the hatches!"  But once the storm passed, a nice crowd of 4000 or more made their way riverside to hear the band.  We played several songs from the new CD and the crowd was singing along, clapping their hands, and more than a few of them got up and danced!  We also played our new song "Sumthin' 'Bout 'Bama" which got a great reception as did our version of Jake Owen's "Startin' With Me."  Our hour went by quick and then we settled in to watch John Michael Montgomery.  He sang all the hits: "I Swear", "Be My Baby Tonight", "Life's A Dance", "I Love The Way You Love Me", "Sold (Grundy County Auction)", plus he did a great version of "Letters From Home", which I think might be the most emotional song of the past 10 years!  All in all, a great show and good time for all!

I do want to mention our new CD, Covers!  These are the songs that our fans requested that we record.  We love doing them but we put a 119 South Band spin on them.  You'll hear "Hole In The Pocket", "Margaritaville", "Mustang Sally", and my favorite, "Looking For Love!"  You can hear a free preview of these songs on Music and Products page.  The band is really excited about getting this CD released... but we are already hard at work for a new CD of all original tunes.  Stay tuned and keep checking in here because you never know when we might post a sneak preview!!!

We are looking forward to the two big shows we have in our hometown:  First at the WV Freedom Festival on July 6th.  It's a late night show starting at 10:00 PM so you can be sure that we'll have the amps cranked up loud and rocking!  Then on Agust 10/11th we will be playing the Logan County Arts and Crafts Fair.  This will be the first time they have ever hosted a concert in conjuntion with the fair... and we are so happy they thought of us and are giving us the opportunity to showcase for our hometown fans.   Plus, are you ready for some RIBS???  We are playing the Charleston RIBFEST on July 27th.  So make your plans to head to the Dunbar Shopping Plaza to get you fill of both the band and the ribs!
